January 22 marked what would have been the 50th anniversary of constitutionally protected abortion rights in the US had the Supreme Court not overturned Roe v. Wade, and Lizzo made clear that she’s not done fighting for bodily autonomy.

Lizzo posted a campaign for her shapewear brand, Yitty, to Instagram, saying she and the brand stand for liberating all bodies. 

“Fifty years later we’re still fighting the same fight for reproductive rights,” Lizzo said in the Yitty campaign video. “We at Yitty are about body autonomy. We don’t want to just liberate bodies through clothing; we want to liberate bodies through our voices. We believe that only you should have a say on what you do and how you feel about your body, and you should have access to reproductive health.”

Lizzo also featured five reproductive rights activists speaking out about the need for bodily autonomy, underscoring how making decisions about our own bodies and health is crucial not just for ourselves but for everyone. 

“This abortion issue touches everything,” Amelia, the cofounder and director of Shout Your Abortion, is quoted as saying in the campaign. “If you care about racial justice, economic justice, gender justice—we can’t have any of it if people cannot control their own bodies.”

“If you can’t control your body, what control do you have over your life?” Kenyatta, a reproductive justice advocate, asked in the campaign. “It goes beyond abortion, to trans rights and the right to be able to make choices about your future and your life.”

In calling out the lack of reproductive rights and bodily autonomy after Roe‘s reversal, Lizzo sent an important reminder on why she’s speaking out: “Because your body is nobody’s business.”
